Deepvine is a large, purple relative of Creepvine found below the Underwater Islands in the Glass Forest biome. The player can use a Survival Knife to harvest Deepvine Samples, eventually destroying the plant.

Appearance

The Deepvine is very large, being much bigger than its relative. It is mostly made out of a small stem filled with large, transparent leaves. The actual stems and veins inside the leaves are a purple color, with the actual leaf being almost entirely see through.

Planting

Deepvine can be planted in either a Exterior Growbed or inside a Alien Containment. While planted, it does not grow as large as its normal counterpart, but can be farmed the same way, being able to cut it for Deepvine Samples.

Deepvine differs substantially in appearance from its shallow-water counterpart, but genetic analysis reveals a close relationship. Like creepvine, it acts as both food and shelter for the local population of small fauna, supporting an ecosystem more rich in biomass than would typically be possible at this depth. Unlike normal creepvine, however, deepvine has evolved to depend on chemosynthesis based on minerals ejected by nearby geothermal activity in the lieu of sunlight. This is accomplished by the leaves harboring extensive colonies of several species of bacteria which can perform biochemical reactions at far greater rate and efficiency than would be possible without them. Assessment: Inedibly toxic but the bacteria may be repurposed to improve the efficacy of chemical reactions
